Kids Director

Direct Report: Spiritual Formation Pastor

Job Purpose
The Kids Director is responsible for providing oversight, leadership and implementation of ministry strategies over the Legacy Kids Ministry. The role of the Kids Director is to be a champion for the goals and mission of Legacy Kids and to serve the children, families and team members of Legacy Kids. This role is vital in connecting kids to God and others.

Legacy’s Kids Ministry is responsible for all ministries pertaining to children birth - 5th grade. The ministry partners with parents to raise up the next generation to have a passionate love for Jesus and His church.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure all Legacy Kids initiatives are in alignment with the vision and values of Legacy Church
    • Collaborate with the Directional Leadership Team to ensure the Legacy Kids Ministry is integrated into the broader mission of the church
    • Regularly attend Team Meetings and contribute to the overall vision and strategy of the church
  • Develop and Implement Curriculum
    • Select and develop age appropriate Bible-based curriculum for classes ranging birth - grade 5
    • Ensure the curriculum aligns with the church’s vision and values
    • Train teachers and volunteers to deliver lessons effectively
    • Ensure curriculum materials are prepared in a timely manner
  • Classroom Management and Scheduling
    • Ensure that all classrooms are adequately staffed and prepared for each gathering and special event (i.e. Worship Nights, Dinner with the Team, Leadership One Day, etc.)
      • Recruit, schedule and manage communication for paid childcare opportunities for special events
    • Manage classroom supplies, resources and create an engaging environment conducive to learning
  • Oversee Planning and execution of Kids Events
    • Plan events with purpose, ensuring they guide students toward meaningful next steps in their faith journey, rather than just creating activities for the sake of having them
      • Events include but are not limited to: Kids Camp, Christmas Program or other outreach events aimed at engaging children and their families
  • Promote Parent and Family Engagement
    • Communicate regularly with parents to inform them about what their child(ren) are learning, upcoming events and resources for family faith development
    • Offer support to parents
  • Foster a safe and secure environment for children and volunteers
    • Implement policies and procedures to ensure a safe and secure environment for children (i.e. check-in/check out systems, volunteer background checks, first aid and emergency protocols)
    • Training volunteers in child safety protocols and handling any incidents that may arise
  • Create and manage Kids Ministry Budget
    • Ensure funds are allocated appropriately for curriculum, events, supplies and other needs
    • Monitor and order materials, equipment and supplies for classrooms and events
  • Relationally serve kids pastoral care needs
    • Provide spiritual care for children, including praying with them, offering counseling when appropriate and being available to support their spiritual growth
  • Keep records of attendance, progress and event outcomes for reporting and analysis
  • Recruit and Train Volunteers
    • Initiate volunteer conversations
    • Coordinate and lead the volunteer orientation and scheduling processes
      • Follow up with volunteers from when they begin serving to ensure satisfaction
    • Ensure each volunteer feels confident, celebrated and are meeting expectations at each stage of their development

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Or up to 6 months of related work experience

Working Conditions
This position receives moderate to limited supervision while working from objectives that have been set by the Lead Pastor. Most assignments are organized and carried out in accordance with standard practices or instructions. This role is a Director role, not a pastoral role. The Kids Director starts out with more direction and supervision, but the goal and current outcome is that they quickly move into the category of receiving general direction while working from established policies and objectives.
Direct Report
This position is not a supervisory position and reports directly to the Spiritual Formation Pastor.
